Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – April 15, 2016
Our student celebrations continue with tonight’s Student Leader Recognition Dinner, which is a fantastic occasion recognizing our many student leaders and their contributions to the community. Earlier today, I attended a New York State American Council on Education Network for Women Leaders in Higher Education luncheon where Professor Judith Langer was honored with the Dr. Carol S. Russett Award for her outstanding accomplishments. Professor Langer left a strong impression on everyone in attendance for her remarks on empowering women.
Congratulations to Renee Balotti (accounting), Edward Hengel (global business), Vidia Saleem (nursing), Karen Schlusberg (fashion design), and Maria Vittoria (marketing), the recipients of Awards of Excellence to adjunct faculty members. We greatly value the contributions of all of our adjuncts as they facilitate student learning.
We signed an articulation agreement assuring seamless transfer for our students who go on to Concordia College. Like many of the other agreements, this one assures that our students do not lose credit when they transfer, and they will be eligible for scholarships as they work on their bachelor’s degree. We caught news media attention with a story on our renewed agreements with Manhattanville College and the College of New Rochelle: http://westfaironline.com/78728/westchester-community-college-pushes-for-transfer-agreements-with-area-colleges/. All of our articulation agreements and the media attention they garner highlight the strength of our academic programs and the range of options available to students as they progress through Westchester Community College.
Enrollment for the summer term is up from last year at this time—an encouraging trend. Please encourage summer enrollment for new students, continuing students, and students who are home for the summer taking courses to transfer back to their home institution. Also, it is not too soon to direct students to fall registration which is also underway.
Thanks for making it a great week.
