Senior Maintenance Mechanic I (Telecommunication Systems)
DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class performs a wide variety of telecommunication work, specializing in the installation/relocation of telecommunications equipment and cabling. Responsibilities involve testing of telecommunications cable, equipment and the network; performing periodic preventive and corrective maintenance, and responding to maintenance service requests. Work is performed with considerable independence, but in most instances, results from oral and/or written work orders. S/he will function as a lead worker on specific projects and may supervise as necessary. The technician is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques used. The technician assists in the planning of repairs and alterations, making estimates of material costs and staff requirements. The technician also has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and devices best suited to complete projects. Some driving will be necessary for work at remote sites.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and four years of experience in the testing, installation, relocation and repair of telecommunications equipment and cable. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is also required. Depending on work assignment, s/he must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet federal, state and local standards with respect to health and safety. Experience with NEC phone switch equipment is preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $44,900 plus excellent benefits.
