Lead Technical Assistant
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Nutrition and Dietetics/ School of Health Careers, Technologies and Applied Learning
RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates in the coordination, planning and supervision for the Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Nutrition and Dietetics Department, to ensure a smooth operation. Assists and acts as a resource to the Department Chair, the two Curriculum Chairs and other faculty members. Maintains department records and correspondence. Oversees the maintenance of departmental laboratory facilities and the operation of all food laboratories which includes the following responsibilities: provides input in the development of laboratory curriculum, supervises of work study and part-time employees, laboratory set-up including equipment and educational materials, food preparation, conformance to Board of Health regulations, maintain OSHA Right to Know MSDS sheets, safety and sanitation concerns, food purchasing, receiving, inventory, training as well as many administrative tasks. Accepts and organizes reservations for Culinary Dining Room student luncheons. All of these functions require thorough planning, training, implementing and organizational skills to provide an exceptional learning experience for the students.
QUALIFICATIONS: A high school or equivalency diploma and either; (a) five years of recent experience in the above mentioned area; or (b) a Bachelor’s Degree* with major course work in the area of specialty and one-year experience in area of specialty; or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in Culinary Arts or Dietetic Technology, Bachelor’s preferred from an accredited institution recognized by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution. Two to three years’ experience in Culinary, Hospitality or Food Service Management. ServSAFE certification. Computer competence. CDM and/or CFPP credential a plus.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: January 1, 2017
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $51,285- $63,950 plus excellent benefits.
