Associate Dean of Continuing Education & Workforce Development and Director of the Gateway Center

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development

Under the general direction of the Vice President and Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, the incumbent serves as part of the leadership team of the division, the largest continuing education division within the State University of New York (SUNY). As such, he/she participates in the planning, development and implementation of strategies to meet divisional goals in accordance with established policies and procedures of Westchester Community College. The incumbent assists in the establishment of long and short-term fiscal and programmatic goals, participates in the selection and evaluation of staff, the development of procedures and qualitative standards, the identification of government and private grant opportunities, the implementation of funding and the preparation of the division’s budget. The incumbent regularly interacts with other college administrators, and representatives from business, labor, not for profit and government agencies to identify and develop additional collaborative non-credit/credit partnerships and to further the College’s participation in workforce and economic development initiatives.

The incumbent is also responsible for the overall administration of, and unique programs offered by, the Gateway Center which provides targeted programs for new Americans and international students. These programs include the Center for Financial and Economic Education, Gateway to Entrepreneurship, and the Welcome Center.

In addition, this position plays a key leadership role in the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education (CCCIE), a national coalition that supports community colleges’ role as critical providers of education and training for immigrants.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

Collaborates to set the direction and establish long and short term goals of the Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development in alignment with the mission of the College;

Develops and maintains strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders including school districts, community based organizations and coalitions, government officials, and business and industry representatives to implement programs and initiatives that serve the educational and training needs of a diverse county and service area and that establishes the Gateway Center as a hub of information and education for the immigrant population;

Facilitates partnerships between and across divisions that provide effective transitions from noncredit to credit and support student success: ESL transition programs, ESL to credit information sessions, inclusion of noncredit students in first year experience activities;

Researches, assesses feasibility, develops and implements new noncredit and workforce training programs; examples may include integrated ESL/workforce training instruction; stackable credentials and career pathways;

Collaborates with external partners, across college divisions and within Continuing Education to respond to federal, state and private grant opportunities to support the mission and initiatives of the college;

Supports division colleagues in their roles as supervisors of extension locations; review budgets, give feedback when appropriate and collaborate on programs and initiatives that strengthen extension locations offerings and services;

Represents the Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development to external stakeholders and on college committees.
Oversees the overall administration of the Gateway Center, the facility and its programs and services;

Leads a team of professionals to develop the strategic direction of, secure funding for, and implement the initiatives of the Gateway programs including: the Welcome Center, Gateway to Entrepreneurship, The Center for Financial and Economic Education, and The Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education (www.cccie.org);

Has fiscal responsibility for the operating budget and grant funded budgets for all Gateway programs and initiatives;

Plays a key leadership role in the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education (CCCIE), a national coalition that supports community colleges’ role as critical providers of education and training for immigrants.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree and seven years of administrative experience (preferably in higher education), including three years in an administrative or supervisory position in non-credit workforce development, are required. Experience implementing programs that promote immigrant integration is preferred. Spanish proficiency is desirable.

SALARY & BENEFITS: The minimum starting salary is $100,290 plus competitive benefits.
