Office Assistant (Word Processing-Spanish Speaking)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Educational Opportunity Center

The SUNY Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) of Westchester, a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking a highly motivated, innovative and energetic professional to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, this non-traditional performance-driven institution provides tuition-free academic and vocational training to eligible underserved adults preparing for college and/or seeking career-oriented employment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Office Assistant will perform a wide variety of clerical and administrative support tasks and functions as an assistant to administrative and professional staff in the Student Affairs department. S/he will work with a high degree of independence. S/he will receive all visitors and students and handle related inquiries, schedule appointments for staff and students, prepare documents using a variety of software applications, maintain department files and records, open and route mail, and perform other duties as assigned. S/he will communicate in English and Spanish and provide interpretive services as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The minimum starting salary is $37,965 plus a competitive benefits package. The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and have a minimum of three years of experience performing office/clerical work; one year of which included the use of computers to produce correspondence, forms, reports, etc., and the maintenance of records. S/he must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and have the ability to effectively multi-task. *This is a Civil Service position.  All candidates will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam, including the Spanish language portion(s) of the exam, before being eligible for appointment.* 

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  The position will remain open until filled. 

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary is $37,965 plus excellent benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
