Positions Within the E.O.C. – Educational Opportunity Center

The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking highly motivated and energetic instructional and student support personnel to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, EOC provides tuition-free non-credit academic and vocational training to eligible under served adults on site in Yonkers, and in Peekskill and Spring Valley. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations, required.

Academic Positions

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Skills Instructor (2 Positions)

Adjunct Faculty Positions - Fall 2014 openings. Specify day/evening availability. 

Adjunct Faculty/HSE Preparation – Reading and Writing: Seeking energetic and engaging faculty to teach Reading/Writing in the High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation program. The successful candidate will deliver the HSE curriculum, preparing students to successfully take the New York State HSE exam, TASC. The HSE Adjunct will be responsible for teaching students who test at varying grade levels in reading/writing and will be expected to have the capacity to teach all levels including Pre-HSE, HSE and Accelerated HSE. Familiarity with the TASC/GED test preferred. Successful candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population and have the ability to work effectively with students who have barriers to employment.  $72.60 per hour. No benefits.

QualificationsA Master’s Degree in education or a related field is required. A minimum of one (1) year of prior group teaching or training experience, including the teaching or training of at risk, adult students is also required. Three years of experience strongly preferred.  S/he must be organized and detail-oriented.  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required. S/he must possess the ability to establish a rapport with students and maintain an environment that supports learning and promotes student retention.

Adjunct Faculty/Nursing. Seeking candidates with strong nursing and educational credentials to teach part-time day and/or evening Certified Nurse Aide and/or Home Health Aide classes, supervise clinical assignments, and provide guidance and support to students to assist them in completing course requirements. Must ensure that the quality of instruction is consistent with the program objectives and industry standards and that students are successful in passing state certification exam.

Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field is required; must be a licensed nurse with a current NYS Professional Nurse Registration. A minimum of one year of nursing experience in the provision of home health care services is required.  Two years of experience is strongly preferred.  A minimum of two years of experience teaching nurse aides in a residential health care facility preferred; or three years of experience teaching nursing or related fields in an academic setting approved by the Commissioner of Education preferred.  Must have some familiarity incorporating technology into instruction and the ability to apply theory to clinical nursing practice/experiences.

Adjunct Faculty/ESOL. Seeking candidates to teach various levels of ESOL from beginner to intermediate/advanced to a culturally diverse adult student body. Candidates must be prepared to address all aspects of English language: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, and utilize innovative instructional strategies to assist students develop language skills that are essential in the workplace, specifically in business and health related work environments. Candidates must also be prepared to assess student progress on a regular basis and to support the retention and advancement of students into higher level programs.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in TESOL with minimum 1 year of teaching experience or a Master’s Degree in related field with certification in TESOL are required. Familiarity with teaching an adult population is strongly preferred.

Adjunct Faculty/EMT. Seeking a Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) to teach and conduct an Emergency Medical Technician training program in compliance with EOC requirements as well as curriculum, policies and procedures of the New York State (NYS) Department of Health (DOH) Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The CIC is responsible for the design of the EMT course schedule, syllabi and course materials, providing hands-on training, ensuring quality of instruction through skills and competency-based assessment; and maintaining records & providing required reports.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of one year EMT teaching experience and five years paid or volunteer experience in Emergency Services. Certification by the New York State Department of Health as a Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) and either: (a) certification as a New York State Fire Instructor Level I or acceptable equivalent; or (b) current certification as a New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT, EMT-I, EMT-CC or EMT-P).

Adjunct Faculty/Career Readiness: Seeking energetic and engaging faculty to teach Career Readiness in a variety of vocational programs. Successful candidates will deliver a Career Readiness curriculum that includes skills necessary to succeed in the ever changing workplace such as problem solving, communication, self-management, job search, resume building, interview skills and overall career preparedness. Instructors will support the development and enhancement of students’ soft skills, workplace skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and leadership skills. Hourly Positions

P/T Technical Assistant-EOC 
The Educational Opportunity Center of Westchester (Yonkers, NY) is looking for hourly assistance in its IT department to perform a variety of tasks including locking down new PCs, moving and performing simple maintenance of PCs/monitors and printers, assisting with the configuration of PCs to the network, verifying inventory, and setting up video conferencing sessions for educational and administrative purposes. S/he may also be asked to remove, clone, and reinstall hard drives under supervision, and other assignments as appropriate.

This job is M – F with a flexible work schedule based on organizational need with a maximum of 28 hours per week. The pay is $11 per hour. (No benefits.) This is a temporary position.

Minimum job requirements are a high school diploma or equivalency diploma, as well as a minimum of one year of computing experience (must be the primary responsibility of your job). The successful candidate must possess organizational skills, the ability to follow instructions, manual dexterity, and familiarity with computer hardware. Knowledge and experience with Windows and MS Office applications are required. S/he must be able to lift 30-50 lbs.

P/T Senior Tutors: Fall 2014 openings. Specify day/evening availability.  EOC seeks Senior Tutors to support the development of adult learners’ reading, writing, math and/or english language skills.  $13.00 per hour. No benefits.

Qualifications: A BA/BS degree is required.  1 year of tutoring experience is desired; preferably in an educational setting with under-prepared students.  The successful candidate must have expert knowledge in subject area and strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite is required.  Hours: flexible, day and/or evening.

P/T TASC Test Coordinator/Lead Technical Assistant: The Educational Opportunity Center of Westchester (Yonkers, NY) is seeking a P/T TASC Test Coordinator to administer the high school equivalency exam and perform related administrative tasks three evenings a week. The P/T TASC Test Coordinator is responsible for organizing and managing the testing process in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, scheduling and setting up for the exams, processing applications and communicating effectively with test candidates and EOC staff orally and in writing sufficient to respond to their informational needs taking into consideration the varied educational levels and backgrounds of those requiring information. The testing schedule is Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30pm until 9:30pm with administrative hours on Thursday evening from 5:00pm to 9:30pm. $15.17 per hour. No benefits.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university and one year of experience in teaching, counseling or testing; or an Associate’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university and three years of experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing; or college-level coursework and experience as a testing proctor at the discretion of the NYS Education Department’s High School Equivalency Administrator are required. The successful candidate must meet the NYS Education Department’s requirements for TASC testing and be approved by NYS Education Department. The successful candidate must also be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. S/he must be highly organized, able to meet deadlines, and have knowledge of high school equivalency testing procedures able to work with colleagues within and organization and with external agencies and have effective communication skills.

P/T TASC Examiner/Senior Technical Assistant: The Educational Opportunity Center of Westchester (Yonkers, NY) is seeking a P/T TASC Examiner to assist the P/T TASC Test Coordinator in administering the high school equivalency exam and performing related administrative tasks including setting up for exams, processing applications and communicating with test-takers and EOC personnel, three evenings a week.  The testing schedule is Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30pm until 9:30pm with administrative hours on Thursday evening from 5:00pm to 9:30pm.  $13 per hour. No benefits.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university and one year of experience in teaching, counseling or testing; or an Associate’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university and three years of experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing; or college-level coursework and experience as a testing proctor at the discretion of the NYS Education Department’s High School Equivalency Administrator are required. P/T Technical Assistant (Allied Health Programs): Fall 2014 openings. Specify day/evening availability. Seeking a highly organized individual with healthcare background to support the delivery of health care training programs. The P/T Technical Assistant will assist nursing students in the lab,  record student progress and achievement under the direction of instructors; store, maintain and set-up instructional equipment; prepare requisitions for supplies and materials as instructed; replenish supplies and check availability of apparatus for class use; assists in the compiling of reports; and perform various clerical duties in assigned area. Work assignments will be made on a course-by-course basis according to approved schedules for each term. Classes begin and end at various times during the term and are of varying length and frequency of meeting. Day and evening assignments are available.  $11 an hour. No benefits.

Qualifications: A minimum of a HS or equivalency diploma, current NYS Nurse Aide Certification and one year of related work experience are required. Must have solid computer skills and strong interpersonal skills.
