Positions Within the E.O.C. – Educational Opportunity Center
The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking highly motivated and energetic instructional and student support personnel to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, EOC provides tuition-free non-credit academic and vocational training to eligible under served adults. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations, required.
P/T Office Assistant (Word Processing) – Educational Opportunity Center. The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center located in downtown Yonkers seeks an incumbent to perform a wide variety of tasks in providing customer service for students (processing paperwork, data-entry, answering phones, etc.), clerical support, and reception, to include answering telephone calls and assisting clients. S/he acts as an Office Assistant for a number of administrative and/or professional staff. Independent action is exercised when routine procedures or clearly defined policies are involved. S/he will expedite related work, as required.
The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience where the primary function of the position was performing general office/clerical work, one year of which must have included the use of a word processor to produce correspondence, forms, reports, or other documents, and the maintenance of records. This position requires a full range of keyboarding skills in Microsoft Office. A high degree of initiative and independent action is required to ensure the timely and accurate processing of workflow. This is an hourly position with a work schedule of a maximum of 28 hours, with a 9:00 am – 5:00 pm weekday schedule and one evening on Thursdays (1-8 pm.) $8.80/hour. No benefits.
P/T Technical Assistant (Testing) – Educational Opportunity Center. The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center, located in downtown Yonkers seeks an incumbent to assist in our Admissions Office with the intake and admission process, specifically including the administration of assessment exams for applicants. S/he is also responsible for scheduling and setting up applicants for TABE exams, processing applications, scoring exams, referring applicants to additional academic remediation services and tracking their progress for return to Admissions, as well as for communicating effectively with test candidates and EOC staff, orally and in writing, sufficient to respond to their informational needs and taking into consideration the varied educational levels and backgrounds of those requiring information. Additional specific duties may vary depending upon assignment. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position.
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in client management and testing. The successful candidate must possess some knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology and tools and/or equipment used in online test administration. Previous work experience that includes technology (machinery, audio/visual, computers, or other equipment is strongly preferred.) S/he must also possess the ability to work effectively with others, including staff, students, and faculty. Excellent customer service and communication skills are required. Computer proficiency is also required. A high degree of initiative and independent action is required to ensure the timely and accurate processing of the workflow. This is an hourly position with a work schedule of a maximum of 28 hours, including daytime and evening availability. $11.00/hour. No benefits.
