Positions Within the E.O.C. – Educational Opportunity Center
The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking highly motivated and energetic instructional and student support personnel to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, EOC provides tuition-free non-credit academic and vocational training to eligible under served adults. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations, required.
Adjunct Counselor-EOC. The Adjunct Counselor plans and implements outreach activities to promote the EOC and recruit potential students. S/he will attend and exhibit at community events, host onsite events, disseminate information through various media, and meet with community partners, leaders and groups, as well as potential students. The Adjunct Counselor conducts the day-to-day operation of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), including tasks relative to the recruitment of students, monitoring students’ progress, achievement and attainment of milestones, data management, and reporting. S/he will also work closely with the Local Workforce Investment Board and community based organizations to recruit and enroll individuals that meet the program guidelines. Preparing reports for the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development, the local Departments of Social Services, the EOC and other entities also required. Routine local travel required.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration or a related field and three years of professional experience are required. Experience in adult education with academically, under-prepared and economically challenged population, public or not-for-profit agencies and welfare-to-work programs in a performance-based funding environment, preferred. The successful candidate must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software. Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
