Instructor of Nutrition/Dietetics – Tenure Track
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Department of Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Nutrition and Dietetics/School of Health Careers, Technology and Applied Learning
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Nutrition and Dietetics is seeking a full time Instructor to teach Nutrition courses including those in the Dietetic Technician and Foods and Nutrition curricula. The curriculum includes all aspects of the dietetic profession as required by the Accreditation Counsel for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) – normal nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, clinical practicum/hospital experiential teaching, food service management, and food preparation/laboratory courses. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate is expected to participate in curriculum/organization updates and improvements, laboratory facility development and maintenance, student advisement, departmental, college activities and active involvement with student clubs and local professional organizations. The position is tenure track with a teaching load of fifteen (15) contact hours, plus a minimum of five (5) office hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree in Nutrition or a related discipline, with one (1) year of experience in teaching undergraduate college students in either the classroom, clinical setting or food laboratory is required. A minimum one (1) year of related work experience in the Dietetics/Nutrition field with a strong knowledge of normal nutrition, medical nutrition therapy or food service management is required. Active membership in AND and registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and certification through The University of the State of New York Education Department is required. A familiarization with the courses and certifications offered through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) is preferred. Experience as a dietetics preceptor is highly desirable. The ability to teach in all three curricula of the department (Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Dietetic Technician and Foods and Nutrition), and strong managerial skills are desirable.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: September 2017.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $57,415, plus competitive benefits.
