Instructor of Mathematics – Tenure Track (2 Positions)
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Department of Mathematics/Division of Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering and Physical Sciences and Technologies
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mathematics Department at WCC has two tenure-track openings for fall 2014. The department seeks motivated candidates with strong mathematical and educational credentials and candidates with working knowledge of the use of technology in teaching. Courses offered at WCC range from developmental to advanced and these would include college-level courses such as Contemporary Mathematics, Development of Mathematical Thought (history of mathematics), College Algebra with Trigonometry, Statistics, Pre-calculus, Business Calculus, Calculus 1, 2 and 3 as well as Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Responsibilities include the following:
- Teach 15 hours a week.
- Hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week.
- Assist in the development of curricula.
- Serve on department and college-wide committees.
- Participate in professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field and a minimum of one year college teaching experience are required. 3 years of college-level teaching experience, including some experience working with remedial programs, is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must possess a minimum of 12 graduate credits in mathematics or statistics. The ability to teach all courses ranging from developmental to advanced, including liberal arts mathematics courses is required. Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population and familiarity with the integration of technology into mathematics education is also required. Familiarity with teaching in a non-traditional environment (particularly online) is preferred.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2014
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $57,415, plus excellent benefits. (Hiring is subject to the availability of funds).
