Instructor of Culinary Arts and Management (Tenure Track)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Food Service Administration Department/Division of Natural & Health Sciences

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Food Service Administration Department seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track Instructor’s position in the Culinary Arts and Management curriculum.  The Culinary Arts and Management curriculum includes core courses and management and culinary courses, some requiring hands-on laboratory instruction. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate is expected to participate in curriculum development and review, assessment, laboratory facility development and maintenance, student advisement, departmental, college activities and active involvement with student clubs and local professional organizations. The Instructor is also expected to keep up with his/her field by actively engaging in professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 of year of course work and /or teaching experience in Hospitality Management with emphasis on Culinary Arts is required.  At least three years of related industry experience with a strong knowledge of food, culinary arts and hospitality management is strongly preferred.  Three years experience in teaching undergraduate college students in the classroom as well as the laboratory is also strongly preferred.  Familiarity with the use of technology in instruction is a plus. Commitment to excellent teaching and to the goals of a community college is sought. The successful candidate should have a strong desire to interact with a culturally diverse student body.  ServSafe certification or comparable sanitation/food handling certification is required.  A familiarization with the courses and certifications offered through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation ManageFirst and/or the American Culinary Federation is preferred.

Active membership in the American Culinary Federation; certification(s) through ACF is highly desirable.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  This is a tenure track position which opens for the fall 2014 semester. (Hiring is subject to the availability of funds.)

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $57,415 plus competitive benefits.
