The paper mills that used to advertise in the back of publications like Rolling Stone Magazine or that were housed and maintained by local fraternities have now evolved into a broad and lucrative cybercheating industry.  Indeed, online cheat-mills have proliferated at an impressive rate in the last decade.  Whether due to the faceless nature of the digital environment or the maverick undertone of the cyberworld, these cybercheating sites operate relatively undisturbed while they brazenly push their wares.  In response to the growing market, some of the cheatsites have even tailored their stock to a specific consumer - see the Othello and Genetics sites listed below.

Some sites do try to dodge the cybercheating label by claiming to provide "sample essays" that can function as "models" for students' own creations.  At the same time, these sites offer tips on how to cheat on an exam as well as opportunities for students to order papers custom-made to suit specific thesis and/or length requirements.

Most of the free papers offered are donated by other student users.  Many of these papers are of mediocre quality at best so that papers are not always easily recognized as plagiarized.
